How car sharing works in Batumi
An app-based car-sharing service has been running in Batumi since late 2022, and in October 2026 it was still operating. It works much like car sharing elsewhere:
- You register in the app with a photo of your driving licence and a selfie. Approval usually takes minutes but can take up to 24 hours, so sign up before you need a car.
- You find a car on the map, book it and unlock it with your phone. There's no office and no paper contract.
- A deposit is held on your card when the rental starts, and it's released the day after, although some banks take longer.
- You end the trip in a marked zone. You may drive and park anywhere inside the service's use zone, which usually covers the city and its surroundings, but leaving it is forbidden without the operator's agreement.
Its tariffs combine a charge per minute with a charge per kilometre, and there are hourly and 24-hour packages; fuel is included, and extra insurance costs more. Prices change, so check the app before you rely on them.
How renting by the day works
Through our search you book a car from a local owner for one day or longer:
- Collection where it suits you: at the airport, in town, or at your hotel with owners who deliver.
- Freedom to roam: anywhere in Georgia on paved public roads, nearly always with unlimited mileage.
- Modest deposits: many cars in Batumi need none, and others usually up to about $100.
- Simple payment: 15–20% online when you book, the rest at handover.
- Prices: in October 2026, the cheapest cars started from about $30 a day on the rental marketplace we work with. In peak summer, the cheapest cars cost $35–40 a day, and they're the first to go.
The trade-off is that you collect and return the car at agreed times, and you're responsible for parking it overnight.
Taxis, Bolt and the bus
If you only make a trip or two each day, you can probably manage without a car. Bolt works across Batumi and quotes the fare before you confirm: around 12 GEL from the airport to the Boulevard. Many street taxis have no meter, so agree the price first. City buses take contactless bank cards, and bus No 10 links the centre with the airport.
Which one fits your trip
- A few short hops around town: a taxi or Bolt. Car sharing works too, once your account is approved.
- An evening across town and back: an hourly car-sharing package saves calling a taxi each way.
- A day out to Makhuntseti, Mtirala, Kobuleti or Sarpi: rent by the day. Long trips can take you beyond the car-sharing zone, and per-kilometre charges mount up on a 70 km round trip.
- Several days exploring Adjara, or a drive to Kutaisi: rent by the day.
- Arriving with luggage or children: a rental handed over at the airport, or a taxi to your hotel.
A mix that works for many visitors
You don't have to pick one for the whole stay. Spend the beach days in town on foot, by taxi or with car sharing, then book a car for the two or three days you head inland, and have it brought to your hotel on the first morning: see delivery around Batumi. Cars with no deposit keep a short rental simple.
Before you decide
Neither option will take you across the border at Sarpi: cars rented in Georgia can't leave the country, and shared cars can't leave their zone. For a day rental, owners need to see your licence card itself, printed in Latin letters or backed by an International Driving Permit. Parking in Batumi is sold as passes rather than by the hour, as our driving and parking guide explains.
FAQ
Is there per-minute car sharing in Batumi?
Yes. An app-based service operates in the city: you register with your licence, unlock cars with your phone and pay per minute and per kilometre, or buy hourly and daily packages. Trips must stay within the service's use zone.
Can I rent a car by the hour on this site?
No. Rentals here run in 24-hour periods, with one day as the minimum. For a couple of hours, a taxi, Bolt or car sharing is usually the better fit.
Is car sharing cheaper than a daily rental?
For short trips in the city, it often is. For a full day out of town, per-kilometre charges and the use zone usually make a day rental the better choice.
Can I take a shared car to Gonio or Kobuleti?
Only if your destination lies inside the service's use zone, so check the map in the app before you set off. A day rental has no such limit within Georgia, apart from the banned mountain roads.
